News Round Up - 27th March

Hi Everyone

The textile and embroidery world has really risen to the challenge of keeping us busy during this unprecedented time and there suddenly seems to be a wealth of on-line activities available. Some are daily prompts, some provide a daily challenge and others are full-blown courses. Here's just a couple of examples:

Tanya Bentham, who is an experienced medieval embroidery teacher, is offering online classes now that her regular teaching is postponed due to the virus.

Check out her shop for details of the two classes  currently on offer:

  • Laid and couched work (bayeux style stitching)  - suitable for beginners and intermediate
  • Opus Anglicanum - more advanced

See below for a picture of Tanya's glorious angels. For more examples of her work, take a look here.

Sadly, we won't get to see Sue Stone at Regional Day in June but she is running the first week of the free Community Stitch Challenge 2020, which has just started this week. It's organised by Textile Artist.org and all the details are here.
Sue has produced a video and a beautifully clear workbook for the first week. The challenge is as simple or as advanced as you wish to make it. There's even a video on running stitch if you want to brush up on the basics. (I have studied this very carefully!) If you do Facebook, there is a very popular group that is sharing pictures of everyone's hand-stitched samples.

And finally, for inspiration, here are some wonderful examples that Helen has sent through. Thanks Helen! They're beautiful!

Take care everyone. Speak soon.
