for Maria Thomas workshop: March 24th 2018
Work with re-cycled fabric, paper ephemera and hand-stitching to create a quilted runner.
This workshop focuses on manipulating the traditional techniques of cathedral windows, English patchwork, applique and Indian Kantha and Shisha stitch into a delightful and contemporary outcome.
Suggestions
for creating the paper, fabric and found objects runner:
Bottle
lids hammered flat, old buttons, odd bits of haberdashery, lace, ribbons. Mixed
re-cycled fabric scraps – old
embroidered linen, velvet and lightweight thin cotton – plain or patterned.
Re-cycled papers – graphic food and
household products packaging, old dress pattern sleeves, lined envelopes,
broken books, old maps….. A favourite
image photocopied.
Pins, fabric and paper scissors, hand and machine threads,
sewing machine.
PVA
glue and spreader, white emulsion paint, large paint brushes 1” and 2”, hair dryer.
(Irons and ironing boards will be available)
