Requirements for Maria Thomas workshop: March 24th 2018

Work with re-cycled fabric, paper ephemera and hand-stitching to create a quilted runner.

This workshop focuses on manipulating the traditional techniques of cathedral windows, English patchwork, applique and Indian Kantha and Shisha stitch into a delightful and contemporary outcome.

Suggestions for creating the paper, fabric and found objects runner:

Bottle lids hammered flat, old buttons, odd bits of haberdashery, lace, ribbons. Mixed re-cycled fabric scraps – old embroidered linen, velvet and lightweight thin cotton – plain or patterned. Re-cycled papers – graphic food and household products packaging, old dress pattern sleeves, lined envelopes, broken books, old maps….. A favourite image photocopied.

Pins, fabric and paper scissors, hand and machine threads, sewing machine.

PVA glue and spreader, white emulsion paint, large paint brushes 1” and 2”, hair dryer.

(Irons and ironing boards will be available)
