<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For inspiration this week take a look at this <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urhRmM-8ClQ">video</a> of <b>Alex Vincent Turner</b>, a recent Embroiderers' Guild Graduate. Alex specialises in personalised hand embroidery and slow sustainable fashion, and one of his current activities is a Map Series using old Ordnance Survey maps to create quilted landscapes and coasters. You can just get a glimpse of Wolverhampton in the coasters here and there's a full set of Birmingham in the next picture!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">And people are doing their best too, with community spirit and positive thoughts. Here’s a fine example, embroidered in cross stitch and spotted by Bernadette in King’s Heath this morning:</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">There seems to be no shortage of crafty things to do at the moment to keep ourselves busy and with that in mind, the Royal School of Needlework have launched a new challenge - <span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">‘RSN Postcard from Home’. In separate news, Angela Rowles and her neighbours organised a celebration for one of their neighbours who reached the giddy age of 102 on Friday. Well done Angela. It just goes to show that we don’t need to be socially distant, even if we’re practising social distancing!</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The textile and embroidery world has really risen to the challenge of keeping us busy during this unprecedented time and there suddenly seems to be a wealth of on-line activities available. Some are daily prompts, some provide a daily challenge and others are full-blown courses. Here's just a couple of examples:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><b><span style="color: purple;">Tanya Bentham</span></b>, who is an experienced medieval embroidery teacher, is offering online classes now </span><span style="font-size: 14.6667px;">that</span><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> her regular teaching is postponed due to the virus. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Check out her </span><a href="https://www.opusanglicanumembroidery.com/s/shop" style="font-size: 11pt;"><b><span style="color: purple;">shop</span></b></a><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="color: purple;"> </span>for details of the two classes currently on offer: </span></span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: purple;"><b>Laid and couched work</b></span> (bayeux style stitching) - suitable for beginners and intermediate</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: purple;"><b>Opus Anglicanum</b></span> - more advanced</span></span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">See below for a picture of Tanya's glorious angels. For more examples of her work, take a look <a href="https://opusanglicanum.wordpress.com/"><span style="color: purple;"><b>here</b></span></a>.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Sadly, we won't get to see </span><b style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: purple;">Sue Stone</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> at Regional Day in June but she is running the first week of the free </span><b style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="color: purple;">Community Stitch Challenge 2020</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">, which has just started this week. It's organised by Textile Artist.org and all the details are </span><b><a href="https://www.textileartist.org/" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">here</a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">.</span></b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b> </b> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Sue has produced a video and a beautifully clear workbook for the first week. The challenge is as simple or as advanced as you wish to make it. There's even a video on running stitch if you want to brush up on the basics. (I have studied this very carefully!) If you do Facebook, there is a very popular group that is sharing pictures of everyone's hand-stitched samples.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And finally, for inspiration, here are some wonderful examples that Helen has sent through. Thanks Helen! They're beautiful!</span><br />
